I have been involved with art all my life, painting, drawing and designing. My parents were quite encouraging when I was a small child, and my father was a talented amateur artist.

I work in all mediums, oils, watercolor, pastels, acrylics, pen and ink, etc., and love to experiment. I have painted on gourds, canvas, paper, cars, rocks, milk cans and furniture. I have designed and made parade floats and store windows. I have also competed in photo contests.

I have received many awards for my art, and have shown in Ramona, Julian, El Centro, and at the Imperial Valley Expo, winning Best of Division in 2008 and winning People's Choice at Banner Queen Gallery in 2009.

Handspun Yarn - Natural Fiber Blends

My handspun yarns reflect my love for organic, natural fibers: Angora, Mohair, Alpaca and rare sheep wools such as Cotswold, Gotland, Wensleydale. Some are left in their natural state, others hand-dyed in earthy rich colors. All yarns are eco-friendly and naturally warm.

I strive to maintain the curly locks and texture of the fiber spun; this is reflected in my hand knit designs. Muted tones of the landscapes surrounding Julian serve as my color palette. Angora rabbits have become an obsession of mine; my fellow spinners and weavers also delight in their prime plucked wool. My enthusiasm for yarn began early, sitting on Grandma Kat's lap (fond memories) learning to crochet at the age of 8. She later taught me to sew.

Thus began a life-long journey of fiber arts: doll making, knitting, quilting and finally spinning and dyeing. I delight  in teaching my own grandchildren to knit and crochet. The circle of life goes on. In the past, I have spun at Renaissance Faires and wine/art festivals in the San Bernardino mountains. My handspun yarns have taken 1st Place ribbons at the Monterey County Fair. Special Orders are always welcome!

Coco was born in Taos, New Mexico and her interest in art began at the age of eight when she observed artists painting. She taught herself to paint and has never had any formal artistic training.

Since moving to the Julian area, she has put aside her paintbrushes and rekindled her passion for stained glass.  She also creates large mosaics, using stained glass and other natural found items, such as geodes and feathers.

Oils

Born in Los Angeles, I grew up in Pasadena, California.  After working on the Alaska Railroad and military service, I obtained a degree in History from UCLA. In 1961, my family settled in Alpine, and I began a 30 year teaching career which ended with retirement in 1991.

Much of my early life was spent on a ranch in a corner of the Warner Valley, which exposed me to our wonderful back country. My time is now spent between Alpine and our off-the-grid cabin on the east slope of Palomar, overlooking my beloved Warner Valley, Hot Springs Mountain, and Volcan.

My studio and plein air oils are inspired by the beauty and spiritual power of this natural landscape, and the hope that my work can help in its preservation.
